A Little Sunday Ham
Sometimes life gives you just what you want... This Sunday was one of those days. I had been drooling over a recipe from another forum. We hadn't made plans for the weekend for a few reasons, kitchen remodel and no dining room table/chairs being the largest reasons, but that was soon to change. I was shaving Friday morning and the wife said... "Would you like to cook a ham and have some family over on Sunday?" Woo Hoo... would I ever?!?! I got just the recipe. Well that was what I was thinking. What I said was... "Sure... what else should we have and who do you want to invite?"
The big trouble I had all day, this year so far really, is the weather. Sunday morning was no exception. It was very cool, in the 40's, and quite windy. It got into the mid 60's and the sun came out in the afternoon so we ate outside, but I think the weather significantly impacted the burn times and temps.
Anyway, long story getting longer, but we had a great meal and everyone loved the ham, but I think I can do better in the future. Bob and Tex have set the bar very high and I know this is a mere imitation on my first attempt.
Here are a few pics of the day...
One semi-boneless ham injected with an imitation of Bob-BQN's famous ham marinade
This time I wanted to see what lump would do and I added some Cherry chips
One ham dressed with pineapple and cherries
ready to get happy
5 hours on the smoker, rested, and slicing has begun
Sliced nice and tasted better
Not to be outdone... the wife put together sides so tasty you really didn't need any thing else.
Mac and Cheese...
Broccoli Casserole...
Jell-O Salad and Deviled Eggs
Good meal, good friends and family, and good times-- a successful Q. I am looking at this one as practice... But... It's mighty tasty practice
