Couldn't wait till the weekend to try the new smoker so fired it up mid week for the 'trial' cook.

Decided to go for the chicken test first time out:

Getting the coals going (notice a gazebo up cos of the rain!):

Just done (now the sun is out)

The finished artice!

It tasted great, and my wife has made a great stock from the bones which has given our latest batch of Boston Beans an authentic smokey hit.

The next project is a brisket set to start on Sunday morning:

The bird looks really good! How was the secret rub on it? Have you done a brisket before?

Congrats on your BIG win! Some folks over here would say that it doesn't matter how many teams are on the race, a win is a win! Wink

I dunno, after doing 4 contests in 6 weeks, I thought I was ready for a break...now that I'm looking at more than a month of not competing, I'm trying to find one to work into for this month. The bride might shoot me if I actually do find one, but what's one more bullet wound, eh?!? pirat

There's a big one in the northern part of the state next weekend, but I don't think I'll be able to get off work next Friday to go. Besides, it's about a 7 hour drive...don't know if I want to trek quite that far right now...still trying to get used to the higher fuel cost.

Maybe I'll just call up a few of my buddies and see if they want to throw some cash in a pot and do a winner takes all contest among the group. Exclamation There's an idea!
