Hitting the right temp with 1 bottom vent.
Has any one had problems hitting the 220 to 250 temp range on the Frontier ? I am new to smoking and have just ordered a Frontier but I am a little worried because it only has one bottom vent compared to the WSM which has 3 and wondered if it would cause problems hitting the temp range.

Re: Hitting the right temp with 1 bottom vent.
Hi and welcome to the forum.
The Frontier will run at 220 - 250 Deg F all day long, the vent issue only comes into play, when you want to cook at 300+ Degrees (chicken is done at these temps, but only to get the skin crispy. I regularly do chicken at 230, but then I don't eat the skin).
The higher temps can be attained by running with the water pan dry and also if the wind is blowing, face the vent into the wind.
I have used my Frontier for over a year with only the one vent, in fact, when I modified another base with 3 vents, I found that it was too unstable for my liking.

Thanks for that Mack you have made me feel better. I was contemplating returning it and buying a WSM but i dont really want to do that cos I like the fact that it has a thermometer and can be upgraded with an extra stacker.
