Keramic cookers / Big green egg and Kamados
Howdy folks...
After seeing lots of keramic cookers like Big Green Eggs and Kamados online and doing some research, i found its about time for me
to get rid of some money and enlarge my equipment pool
Remember the quote : "He who dies with the most toys wins" ?
I think a large Big green egg would fit my needs very good, but i know theres other types out there and i dont wanna
make a mistake as they are quite expensive.
So, do you have any experience with keramic cookers and what would you suggest ?
I have a friend who can have a BGE-Mini shipped from Canada for me at a really good price, and i really want that one just for the looks and
searing quality.
The large BGE costs about 3 times as much over here as it does over the pond.
Maybe i can make a deal on a large cooker at the Spoga trade show, but thats still 7 month ahead.
Cant wait for your opinions.
Cheers,
DM

Hi Marco,
We're currently looking at importing the Primo ceramic cookers (I think Thomas at BBQ Scout is too), but if we do we'll only bring in the Oval XL.
You may want to wait a bit... besides you have too many toys to play with as it is

XL Primo oval...
I´m gonna do some research on it, the first looks are pretty good.
Any information on the possible price range ?

Marco, we are still looking at the shipping costs, duties and taxes etc.
I'll let you know as soon as I have worked some prices out.
What does the GE sell for in Germany?

The large Egg (not XL) sells for about 1300 € incl. Nest without tables.
US Price tag is at around 700 $

I had the chance to use a Primo at the Jack Daniels this year and they are a real nice cooker. They do have a bit more grill space than the BGE so you might want to check them out before you buy.

When I was young and tender flying all over the world we use to bring these home from Japan. They called them Kamado Pots at that time. Price has sure gone up though . . . in 1966 they cost $15, $18 if you wanted one with an adjustable draft on the lid. They are OUTSTANDING, albiet real heavy. Make sure that you get the roll around base for it. You can do up a whole batch of ribs on 20-30 briquettes. Once they get hot they don't use much fuel, and you can still put your hand on the outside without initiating a trip to the emergency room for burn treatment.

I've got a Primo XL Oval and a Primo Oval JR. I love them both.
