Showgrilling at a small Contest + a giant pizza
Howdy folks...
Last weekend some friends and i went to a small local grilling competition near Hannover in northern germany. Only local teams were allowed and we were booked to show some BBQ and grilling to the people.
So i loaded Suzie-Q and my Outlaw onto the trailer and went on the 200 mile drive.
After 30 Miles i met some friends with their char griller duo
After almost 4 hours i arrived at my friend thomas house near the city where the contest took place.
The front of suzys vertical chamber was full of roadkill insects. What a mess, i guess i better dont post the closeup...
This is Thomas with his new toy, a ranch kettle that he "stole" off ebay.
We also had some grilled Pizzas, pineapple chunks and ribs that evening while preparing the food for the next day. There were also quite a few cases of beer involved :-)
The next morning started as usual, as we all woke up way too late.
Loaded up all the hardware into 3 cars and 3 trailers (including mine) and went to the contest.
When we arrived, therer were only 6 Teams attending and we had more than twice as many grills with us than all of those 6 teams had together...
We had my Offset Smoker, a couple of char grillers, Pro-Q´s, Outdoorchef Gas kettles, Weber Ranch kettle and some Son of hibachis around. Looked like a Grill Museum road show.
Then the cooking started.
We made lots of wings, Ribs, planked salmon, Beer can chicks, Tortillas with bratwurst and grilled pineapple, Beef tenderloin and sirloin, Pork tenderloin, legs of venison and lamb and some more stuff.
All of that repeated itself a couple of times over that day and the food was greatly appreceated by the crowd.
Heres some pics of the attending teams menues. This was more a
grilling than a BBQ contest and none of the teams had a covered grill.
Somehow they all used open top grills.
After we cleaned up and packed our stuff together i left my smoker trailer at my friend and had to drive another 500 Miles to Bavaria because i had some work to do there from monday on. Talk about a long day...
Anyway, heres some pics of the beatiful landscape down there.
Yesterday evening i drove up north again to pick up my trailer and was greeted by thomas with this :
Rolf, another friend from our german forum manufactures Pizza Stones with a very resistant and easy to clean ceramic finsih. He made a special edition for thomas ranch kettle, measuring 24".
Heres a pic of one of the two fantastic Pizzas we cooked on it at ~550 F.
I´ll post some more pics of the other pizzas as soon as i have my cam back.
Cheers,
DM

Can you read my mind or what ?

Wow, that all looks fantastic! Any idea what the tomato (dished with the whole fish) was filled with?
Hmm...a Ranch Kettle ProQ...I think I would have to convince my bride to let me latch onto one of those!
Carpe 'Que,
Jim Rhino

Here are the promised pizza pics
Then there was a little misunderstanding, when the 2 years old daughter of my friend accidentially marinated the wrong, alive, chicken...
She was playing with it at the grills and somehow managed to empty a gas grill grease pan on top of the poor hen
Heres a pic of the "not amused" hen while cleaning it.
Afterwards the rooster decided it was time to "take care" of the hen. Talk about a bad day, eh ?
Heres the second pizza
