Pictures from across the pond...
Hey Gang,
Outside of the Illinois BBQ Society, I also have a competition team called http://www.BanditBBQ.com. We just wrapped up our 4th contest of the year over here in Illinois, USA...had pretty good luck. 40 teams from around 6 states and we placed 4th Place Overall! Yee-Haw! Just .0004 points out of 3rd Place!
Anyway, it has been our biggest win to date and wanted to share some pictures from the contest...
2nd Place Chicken (Thighs)
7th Place Ribs (Baby Backs)
8th Place Beef Brisket
13th Place Pork
Here are a few random shots...
Prepping chicken before turn-in
Trying to scare off the evil barbeque spirits...
Our Cooksite...
If you're interested, I do have pictures from other contests posted on MySpace, and you're welcome to surf by for a look. http://www.myspace.com/banditbbq . If you have a MySpace page, please send your address (or request friendship).

Congrats, Jim.
Very nice presentation pics, really liked the chicken.
Though the pix of you scaring off the spirits has me a little worried.
Good luck at future comps.

Re: Pictures from across the pond...
Thanks Bill! We're still pretty new to the whole contest scene...8 contests under our belt in the last year and a half...3 KCBS Sanctioned...rest have been 'backyard' events. We're having fun and enjoying the leftovers.BowtieBill wrote:Congrats, Jim.

Great looking boxes there Jim, but I really think you need to work on your smile a bit more

That IS my smile when someone is trying to invade my tent during turn-in times.

Hey Jim,
Yes, I compete out here under the team name Tropical Heat BBQ. We have been competing since 2004, usually doing 4 to 7 comps a year. We are a two member team, started out as just a couple of backyard quer's.
We have had a little comp sucess, with 1 GC at a small comp last year, and a RGC at our first comp of this year, with several 1st place category trophies along the way. We are shooting for at least another GC this year and a shot at going to the Jack and Royal (aren't we all).
I am also a current Board member for the CBBQA, this is my second year.
Maybe we will bump into one another in the future (hopefully at the Jack!)
Take care, happy Qing,
Bill

Re: Pictures from across the pond...
Man, wouldn't that be great!?! Meeting up at The Jack! Since I haven't won a GC (and not scheduled to cook another sanctioned event until this fall) I don't think I'll be in the draw for this year...one can dream though. There are a couple of guys in the ILBBQS who have won the past couple of years...to talk with them about the experience sure gives us something to shoot for at contests...perhaps I'll have to look for a couple more qualifying events to get in the draw.BowtieBill wrote:

So far, we've been the 3rd and 4th place teams at contests, but have yet to break the seal on the GC or RGC...might have to wait until next year. In the mean time, we'll keep having fun and enjoying the leftovers!

Better?

Ian,
Is this a better smile for you? This is right after getting our trophy for the chicken category.

Thanks Mike!bowhnter wrote:Congrats on the finishes Jim! I wish I could find some backyard comps around here...
Texas has a bunch of barbeque organizations...do any of them list backyard events on their websites? We have a list of barbeque associations on our site that might be helpful. Check 'em out at http://www.ILBBQS.com -> BBQ Links.
