A Flock Of Chickens
Needed to see how many chickens I could fit on the new toy, so I went out and bought a flock of the critters.
These are 2Kg (4.5lb) free range (they were until I came along) birds lovingly cared for and then massaged gently with various herbs and spices.
Done! Only got the chance to take a pic of these, as the ladies in the bank were waiting for theirs.
Struggled with temps on this cook, still haven't worked out why, but it was difficult to get the unit over 200.

Re: A Flock Of Chickens
Holy moly...
Now thats a lot of chicken.
Ian, how many standing chicken do you get on the top stacker under the lid ?
Cant wait to see the results.
How bout you make a cook with 3 chickens, each one on its own stacker grate ?
That way people could see how even the temps are.

The chicks look perfect, Ian.
Did you have water in the pan or did the charcoal get wet while in storage ?
Those are the most common reasons for not getting up to temps.

Re: A Flock Of Chickens
Looks like perfect chix to me! With the trouble you had with temps, how long did it take for the 6 birds?
Re: A Flock Of Chickens
Jim the cook took 4 hours, normally I would do them in about 3 hours. I'm guessing it was just a bad batch of charcoal, as when I did the piglet, I managed to get the to get the temp up to 275, that was with a full water pan. For the chickens I was running a dry, foiled water pan and struggled to reach temps above 240.
Re: A Flock Of Chickens
Most interesting Ian, my Frontier will run at a consistent 325 - 350 without water in the pan every time. Did the charcoal spark a lot when you lit it up..?
