Can't get the Frontier over 200 degress Empty Can't get the Frontier over 200 degress

Hello all.

I recently purchased the ProQ Frontier Smoker. I must say that love it, but am having a darn hard time getting the temp over 200 degrees. This is the newer unit with 3 vents on the bottom and one on the top. Charcoal basket seems a bit small. Basically, I fill up a chimney starter with either lump charcoal or briquettes. once they ash, I pour them in the charcoal basket. Seems like I should put more in, but I just put in the one chimney full. Then I fill the water pan with hot water, put on the food and wait. Initially it seems to move up to around 230 or so, but seems to come back and settle at 190-200 degrees. Should I using more charcoal? Less charcoal? All 3 vents at the bottom are open as well as the vent on top.

any help would be appreciated. Also, Is the charcoal basket for the Frontier supposed to be that small? It's only arounfd3" high.

You need to put unlit coals in the snoker then add the the lit ones. One chimney will never be enough on it's own.
