BBBQS (British BBQ Society)
Hi All,
Exciting Times!! As some of you will know I have been working on a comp circuit with a British / UK based set of rules, I am in the process of finalising everything. I have just received an email form one of the event organisers for the Jack, they would like me to send them the final rules, teams per event, number of events, categories etc so that they can put a proposal together to their BBQ committee.
I will post separately a draft set of rules for the BBBQS (British BBQ Society) if you have any comments / feedback please post on this topic or pm me.
Dry run / forum meeting will be held on either 16th - 17th or 23rd - 24th May depending on which is more popular (please let me know on this topic) to be held at GU10 1BP,
Thanks
Toby

BBBQS
Nice one Toby, I'll hold off from any events until after your get together so as to clarify things. I will make myself available for whichever weekend you choose. Feel free to call me if you still have my number. Looking forward to the website and hooking up for some cooking.

Me Not Understand??? PLEASE HELP........
Sorry...I'm not sure if I'm understanding properly. Is it a forum meeting or a BBQ contest your talking about, for 23/24 May. Please forgive me for not understanding, we've only just got electricity here in Yorkshire
official comp
Hi Andy,
It will be the first official BBBQS competition, run over 2 days. The forum side is so that people can raise issues, ideas about future competitions, society rules, additions to the comp circuit etc.
Hope that makes sense.

Hi Toby,
What's the drills in terms of accommodation? is the site suitable for touring vans or do we need to look locally?

Access, Parking, Camping
Although at the end of a single track lane, there will not be any problems getting caravans or tourers up here. If the weather lets us down i have a large area of hard standing which will avoid the tyre sinking in mud situation. There is plenty of room for camping in the paddock.
Please feel free to ask any questions. I check the site several times a day.

Nice one Toby,
Not sure if I will have a team fully assembled but I will definitely be there.
Let me know when you post the details, e.g website, details on cuts if we bring our own etc.

The Distance Is Not Too Far....
Having a BBQ contest any where in the UK is just fabulous. - How anyone can say it is too far to Guilford from Nottingham is a joke! - Try going to a contest in america to see what far is! - Keep it going Toby, I will bring a team from Yorkshire, no problem. Especially over a bank holiday weekend - It will be fantastic - our lads (and lassies) are revved up and ready to go!!!
Re: BBBQS (British BBQ Society)
Where in Yorkshire are you Andy?
I'm trying to get a comp set up near here at some point this year also, Chicago Jack AKA John is looking at something in Wigan too.
Hopefully, with a bit of luck we should have a few comps to go at this year.

Cool,
I spend a bit of time up there myself, Bridlington, Scarborough and Whitby sometimes Settle (Usually Council Work).
I use a good butcher up there for my Pork Butts, just outside Scarborough, a place called Trotters, he cuts them to order for me.
If you ever think of setting up an event post here mate.

Re: BBBQS (British BBQ Society)
Andy, I bow to your wisdom…………. Setting up a comp, from grass routes level is expensive, I am not interested in one off’s its about a goal and a great bunch of people cooking good (I of course mean great!) food. Many of us travelled to Ilminster in Somerset for the British BBQ Championships last year, it was great because of the competitors not the organisation. It looks like it was a one off because it wasn’t commercially viable, I am starting something out of my own pocket that requires the support of enthusiasts, it will not work without them………. there will be contests in other parts of the country but we need a bed to work from and the first, which is free to enter, will be used to better perfect future competitions.
Re: BBBQS (British BBQ Society)
Hi Toby,
I agree, I don't think the guys that organised the last event did it with the spirit in mind. I think especially given the corporate feel and presence that it may have been a hope that it would become a revenue generator.
I think, given the discussions that have taken place on here that we will at some point soon find ourselves with a hardcore of people that attend most if not all regional events, but hopefully also the people local to the areas that want to cook recreationally.
In the current climate there is little to look forward to this year but I'm hoping this will be one of them.
I'd like to say thanks Tobe for taking the lead.... If you need a hand you have my details now.
