Canadian Open Empty Canadian Open

Another year has gone by and it is time once again for the Canadian Open BBQ Championships (4th 5th and 6th of July). My partner and I will be competing along with some 30 teams for the much coveted invite to the Jack Daniels World Championships...

I can say it will not be the same without Ian present for moral support and to ensure our beer supply is of top standard. Wink

I am a little disappointed to see that there is not the international turn out that there was last year but with the increase in travel expenses I can understand that most of the European teams are concentrating their efforts closer to home.

We will be doing our best to represent ProBBQ with our efforts this weekend with at lest three of the food groups cooked on a Frontier. We will be competing in 7 categories, ribs, chicken, brisket, pork shoulder, sauce, dessert and anything butt.

Wish us luck...!!!

The team I compete with is called Swamp Daddy's BBQ.

Best of luck my friend (you don't really need luck, you have talent), go out and kick some butt! Then we can meet up at the "Jack" to sample a few brews.

I'm really sad to be missing this event, it's a great venue, great people and a whole heap of fun... maybe next year.

We had a great weekend at the Open and got tree calls.

We took 2nd in chicken, third in dessert and third in anything butt.

Swap Daddy's placed 11th over all which is good for the first time out team has compete in the Canadian Open.

Congratulations to Team Cedar Grilling for winning the Open for the third time in a row.. Man, they got some game. Wink

Th Canadian Open is our national championship and is a Jack Daniels qualifier. We do things different than most comps south of the border in the USA as we include side dishes along with out meat submitions. This can make things kinda interesting as it is all about paring the sides with your meat and trying to make it look very good as well. Some teams can present a box that is picture perfect.

We have probably the prettiest location for a BBQ competition there is going as it is on the shore of Lake Simcoe in one of the cities largest parks and open beaches. Needless to say the eye candy during the event is second to none as our site was 30 feet from the beach.. Shocked

The total prize money for the event was 30,000 Canadian which is some what more than US dollars.

Anyways, I got some pix that I will try and get posted when I got a few minutes.

Thanks for your interest.

Congrats Roxy... cheers

Over here all the competitions go with the fancy sides, so i´d really like to do one where the meat is all that matters.
