Kettle BBQ Chef 2008
Is there anybody on the forum who will be entering into this event http://www.kettlechips.co.uk/site/WebSite.do?id=501.54.30036 ? I hav'nt done any serious bbq yet but am thinking of entering anyway or maybe I should wait a bit. Are there any any experts out there that could advise ?

Re: Kettle BBQ Chef 2008
I'm very interested in this event.
I say enter it and get your feet wet you may be very surprised on how well you do. If you have the drive to Q then you are well on you way.

It all depends on the day and the taste buds of those judging plus depending on what others create could very well turn out fantastic and surprising results. I say you should enter and most of all enjoy yourself. I think that at the last contest others were a bit fed up with Mark , Cliff and myself clowning around. lol Go for the fun, learning and the food and it will prove to be a great day for all.

Re: Kettle BBQ Chef 2008
Hi Daved,
Though I will not be able to make the contest on your side of the pond, I have done a number of contests and wanted to back-up Dr KY in that the 'having fun' part is the best part. I compete in the U.S. in both big and small contests. The absolute best part is meeting all the people who have the same passion for cooking as you do and befriending them.
Dr. KY is also right in that the judging is so subjective. Experience has shown me that it doesn't matter if you're cooking on a couple of Weber Kettles, a couple of ProQ's, or a big $20,000 smoker, it's not the cooking apparatus, it's the cook. Go ahead and enter the contest...if you're not already hooked on excellent barbeque, you will be after the contest!
Carpe 'Que,
Jim Rhino

Re: Kettle BBQ Chef 2008
Well said Jim Over here we need more people to come forward and enjoy our hobby year round. There were people at the Ilminister event that had no idea what smoking was about but I could tell we excited a few and I expect to see a rise of this art form.
My UDS got more attention than I expected an in return I gave some impromptu to lessons on how to build one.
Get to any event you can and enjoy some great food and fantastic people.

Re: Kettle BBQ Chef 2008
Sounds like some good advice all round. Im suprised how many serious bbq folk there are in the UK as I said before I never knew that food could taste so good of a bbq until I went to the States.
