Re: Defend yer title Al!!!
Yeah, gotta love a bit of friendly competition!
Seriously though the main thing is that the winner goes to the Jack and sticks to the Americans.
Got to say though, would love that person to be me
Good luck all round!

Here here CJ! We had a great time and that Mystery box was a stunning idea and I really enjoyed the friendly banter.

Re: Defend yer title Al!!!
I second that. Well done to all the competitors, it was a great weekend with some great food cooked.
The atmosphere was great, I think we're very lucky to have such a good core group of people with the same interest.
And a big thank you to Toby for setting up the BBBQs and arranging these events and to his family/friends for supporting his efforts. We all realise it takes a lot of effort and commitment to do these things. I think it's safe to say we're all behind you and we'll do what we can to help you make this grow into a success, somehing that can sustain itself and become a great BBQ society with more great members and a calendar chocked full of great events.
Already looking forward to the next one

Re: Defend yer title Al!!!
Thanks guys, think we are all completely drained here and still struggling to stay awake, the buildup to May and then Rother has taken its toll (nothing to do with the two trips to the states lol) , I think I will sleep this week and ignore the wolves at the door.
none of this would be possible without your support, we really appreciate it. I am going to post some info on another thread so keep your eyes peeled.

Re: Defend yer title Al!!!
Congrats to all of you!!
I did not attend the comp this weekend as I couldn't find enough reliable people to serve, grill , run my meat beast and do some basic cooking... well not anyone that I felt could represent our company name to the degree that I expect at an event. I had to make a tough decision an skip the contest and run the family business vending at The Trowbridge Pump Festival this week.
As all of you can imagine I had to come to a heart breaking decision, I took every avenue, time and resource I could to avoid letting everyone down including myself. We rented a van and put together our gear for the competition and were packed for the trip. It was not an easy choice to make but family and business is always first. You guys know I have to put everything through momma before I make a decision,( remember the Weber Ranch ordeal? ) so we sat and did our best to make both events happen but it wasn't to be. Arriving home to see the van still parked where we left it was very painful and unloading it was even worse.
My hat is off to the winner of the northern championships and may they represent England in America to a very high standard.
We are truly sorry if we let anyone down most of all Toby. I'm sorry man but I did everything I could to be with you all. Please feel free to send us a bill for any meat that went to waste due to our absence.

Re: Defend yer title Al!!!
Really sorry you couldn't make it Al.
Hope you're not too gutted about missing it and I personally hope that you're still intending to compete with us in the future.
Just bring a crate of good beer to next year's to make it up to me

Re: Defend yer title Al!!!
Hi Al,
Shame about the weekend, and more importantly your post... I was looking forward to giving you some grief about the "No Show" but can't think of anything witty to write in response. Was the trowbridge thing a last minute deal? Toby has the event calendar (http://www.bbbqs.com/Calendar.html) on the forum now so you should be able to view that in advance (7 P's). I suspect though when word gets around about Dr. Sweetsmokes event BBQ's you will be busy most weekends.
The event was, as per Toby's usual standard excellent!!!, shame about the weather and I know Toby was getting to some beef about not knowing if you were coming or not. The weather could have beenworse though. I will have to wait now to see how my sauce would have done against the famous Dr Sweetsmoke prize winner.
Anyway, cutting to the chase are you coming to the end of season friendly at Toby's? It would be good to give you some grief in person and partake in a cider. In fact we would need to toast Royal Q's impending nuptuals as he will be on a leave pass for his Stag Night.
Here is Royal Q's Mascot trying to make it onto the Dodgems....

Here is a link to some more photo's I must apologise in advance for the pics as we were so engrossed in the comp we forgot to take many, I will consolidate the phone photo's later.
