We felt kinda bad for developing a cooker that has more features than the WSM, because there's guys out there who have already invested money in the Weber Smokey Mountains, so we decided to develop a new toy to make their units a bit more versatile.
The WSM Stacker. This unit fits straight onto the original unit without the need for any modification.

I also like the versatility that it will fit on the kettle. With that being said though...are there bolts on the bottom too so the grate will sit at the opposite end when it is upside down?

Good point Mike, we will probably supply it with brackets at both ends, so that it can be inverted to be used on existing Weber kettles.

Opinions needed... Is the door in the WSM Stacker necessary?

My first thought was no. Not having used one yet though...Would you use the door to check meat temps on the rack below it if you didn't have a probe in the meat during the cook?

If you don't have a door, would you have an eyelet that could be used to run the probe and wire thru? Personally, I would rather have a probe inserted the whole time vs opening the door or llifting the top.

On the other hand, some people flip meats during, and this could allow access to do so without lifting the above stacker or lid.

That was not much help as I see pros to both. Rolling Eyes

Thanks Mike,
The unit already comes with a probe eyelet, but I like you can't make my mind up about the door.
Marco is the only person to have used the WSM Stacker, so I guess he should be able to enlighten us a bit more.

I say yes to the door as it I do use them on the Frontier a lot to take a look at what I am doing without having to open the unit up.

Yo Mack,

I'm with Roxy, leave the door. I don't have a WSM but have received some nice comments when camping & cooking with my Frontier from some WSM owners who really like the doors on my ProQ.

Is the grill one that comes with the stacker, or is it a Weber grate? I like the idea of the grab handles. If they are part of the stacker, will you be offering any of this design to fit in the Frontier?

I agree, the nice new handle design should be added to the Frontier as they tend to bend a little if ya got a good load of meat in the unit.

Just MHO and trying to help to get the best product out there.

Thanks UJ and Roxy,
The Grill/ grate is as close as possible to the original WSM one.
The new Frontiers (2008) will have the folding handles, as these do appear to work better than the current ones.
They will also come with a probe eyelet in each stacker.

So far it looks like the door is staying, just waiting for the German expert to confirm bounce

Sorry for my late response, i´m really busy at work. Its always amazing to see how many of
our customers get "surprised" by Christmas each December. Rolling Eyes

I say definately keep the access door, it wont hurt you if you dont need it, but when you need it for flipping, basting, checking temps
or just taking a look at the meat, its really handy.
The hinged door beats the WSM trap door any time.

I like the stacker very much, not only does it add valuable cooking space, cooking on the stacker grate without the
waterpan inserted also opens the door to a whole new style of smoke cooking.

Did i mention that i still hope for a 22" Stacker for regular Weber Kettles ? Twisted Evil

i know I'm late to the posting of this and bearing in mind my comments it won't really matter.

But.... Have you designed a gadget that changes the way the lid fits to the WSM and stops it from becoming a Water Butt?

A market on its own there, I am sick of emtying water out of mine when I use it.

Nope, not designed a gadget, but if you think upside down like I do, it'll solve the problem Wink

Drill a small hole in the center of the bottom pan.

The lid is made that way so that the liquids that condensate in the lid don't run out of the cooker and down the outside.

I am really reluctant to drill the Enamel, if they have designed the lip for this purpose perhaps (and it makes total sense) it should come with the drain hole pre-drilled (prior to the enamel process).

The only problem with this (from a manufacturer's point of view) is that ash will then fall out of the hole in the bottom and may pose a fire hazard.

WSM (Weber Smokey Moutain) Stacker Empty Stacker questions

Post  Maddog Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:21 pm

Mack, or whomever gets this... Starting with a weber kettle, I am thinking about adding one of your stackers to it. Plan is to modify the stacker to hold a water pan and and possibly an additional cook rack. In other words, I'm looking to use one of your stackers to convert a kettle to a bullet (WSM), essentially. I've been picking up bits and pieces about your stackers. What is the diameter 18 or 22 or do you make both? Can you see any impediments to adding a water pan and rack in the stacker? Can you see any other problems with this idea? The use of multiple stackers also has me thinking. In looking at your products on this site, I have not been able to identify just the stacker by itself. Anyone in Western Washington State who actually carries these? I'm fine ordering directly from you if that's best. From where you sit am I overlooking anything? Thank you for your time!
