I'm building a Budget smoker, any help appreciated.
Hi all
You guys have a great hobbie im loving your pictures of some tasty looking meat!!
So i thought i'd have a go at building a budget smoker. Don't want to spend over £50 really cos moneys tight lately.
Here's a picture of what i'm currently aiming for..

The Smoke chamber is a tenalised aluminum so i'll be spraying the inside of it with BBQ paint.
I still need to find something to use for the fire chamber and purchase some grills, i've got everything else.
So have i missed anything obvious? Do you think it could work?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Are you wanting to hot smoke or cold smoke, or both?
The set up looks fine, but I'm not sure if the water tray will have any effect.
You might want to look at building a UDS http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13224

For hot smoking, you won't need the box on the side for the fire, just something to burn the charcoal in, bleow the water pan (the water is what regulates the temps and keeps them low... around 110 DegC.
I would advise against using galvanised for any type of hot smoker, as if heated up too high it will release toxic fumes.

So i take it the design i've kind of copied is more for cold smoking than hot, ok i'll change that.
I'm not sure where to get a 55 gallon drum from and all ready have a garden waste burner(bin thing) so decided to try using that. I've read about the chance of poisoning the food but i thought that coating the surface with BBQ paint stopped that happening?
Anyway not to worry as i'm going to see if i can get hold of a clean 55 gallon drum and start from fresh copying the designs on that link you kindly posted.
Thanks for your help.
