Maverick ET-73

Post  hartlenb on Thu Aug 06, 2009 3:36 pm

Do the probes fit through the holes in the Excel20? I already have a digital thermometer but I have to pass it through the top vent because the area where the wire is crimped to the probe is too large to fit through the holes... . Don't want to have to buy the ET73 and have to do the same thing.

Thanks, Bryan

They don't fit out of the box. Where wires are crimped into probes is too wide. Your existing thermometer probably has same issue. A gentle squeeze
of the probes at the problem point with some pliers will solve the problem and won't damage the probe.

I had the same problem with the Frontier (they probably use identical grommets on the two models), but approached the solution from the opposite angle. To wit, I used a needle file to slightly enlarge the hole in the smoker, rather than doing anything to the probe.

By chance, this morning I received my ordered ET-73 and noticed the same. I had the same problem with a CDN thermometer I used until now and I "fixed" it too by squeezing the probe. With the CDN I had to be very careful because squeezing too much caused the wire to get loose inside the probe.

Btw, when using only one stacker you only have one hole of course. What would you suggest when I want to use both probes ? One through the hole, for instance the one for the grate, and the other one through the top vent hole ?
