I could be wrong, but I thought the main use for the liquid in the water pan is to act as a heat sink & stabilize the temperature, so i think it may smell nice, but it could end up as a bit of a sticky mess to wash out by the end of your session Rolling Eyes

the thing that gave me the idea was , some recipes tell you to put bay leaves , garlic , lager etc so i just thought maybe its worth a try i did think cause of the suger content it would take a bit of cleaning but then great food is worth abit of work, if anyone has tried it i would be interested to hear how it went

Not sure if it will make any diff to the taste of the food, but it will give off a lovely aroma.
Try it and let us know how it goes.
