Hello from Reading
Hi,
I just joined the forum today. I feel a bit cheeky doing so as I don't yet have a smoker, however it's my 30th birthday in March and my lovely other half is planning to buy me a Frontier. Particularly good of her since she doesn't like meat all that much and she knows I'll just end up have the lads over for even more barbecues and all year round too!
I've always been a keen cook and I'm told I'm pretty good at it, I've also always been a bit more adventurous on the grill than a lot of people. My dad got the barbecue bug in Greece when I was a kid so I grew up with lots of barbecues
I'm looking forward to starting with a smoker as it's a new technique for me and I love learning new methods of cooking. Any tips from the seasoned pro's out there gladly received and I look forward to posting some pics from my first cook!

Re: Hello from Reading
Mate, welcome to the forum, there is no cheek in joining in now, I am sure you will be able to get plenty of advice on which smoker to use and plenty of cooking tips.
On the plus side and in light of your good ladies position on the meat, feel rest assured that smoked veggies can be just as good!

Re: Hello from Reading
Hi Steve and welcome to the forum!
I got your email, but thought it would be easier/better to answer your questions on the phone, so I'll give you a call tomorrow, if that's ok with you.

Re: Hello from Reading
Hi Steve, welcome to the forum.
There's a lot of good, helpful people here & bucket loads of great smoking ideas.
I have a Frontier & I absolutely love it, the only problem is, it's addictive, & I now want to get an Excel. (Not that there is anything wrong with the Frontier, but the Excel has a few subtle additions). I got it for a bit of fun & it's turned into something of an obsession. So if you can stretch, get the bigger one, if not the Frontier will give you (& your friends) many hours of pleasure.
Like Adie say's, get the Redi check thermometer, it's a god send!

Re: Hello from Reading
Hello from the other side of the pond, Steve. Glad you're here...it's never too early to join the group and join the fun.
Re: Hello from Reading
WELCOME!
Fun gang here. And Don Marco and Traegie keep us entertained and jealous with their pics.
Interesting location you have there. My wife is from Wyomissing Hills, her parents still live there on wellington, and another place on the river just off of broadcasting.
My favorites there are Kaufmans chicken, maybe a 20 min drive. has a put-put course outside. Also love Victor Emanuels, and this little sandwich shop in Hamburg.

Re: Hello from Reading
Welcome Steve,
I love my frontier also. But if given the chance all over again, I'd go with the Excel.
