Beer can chicken holders
Had two of these made today for a test run . After I got home I decided that the 2'' tubes may not be wide enough so I'll go back and have some 3'' cut and see how it works out. I also may need to shorten the sides or drill several 3/4 '' holes in the base.
Opinions?

Re: Beer can chicken holders
I have them with 2" and 2 1/2 " Tubes. Any bigger than that is a major PITA for the chicken
I also have one 3 1/2 " tube for turkey, goose and roadrunners (someday ill get him).

Re: Beer can chicken holders
Mine are 2'' and I was considering something larger for a turkey but I only cook them on Christmas. ( A free bird is included with our bonus at work) I do need to trim the plates smaller but that's something I can do at home. What are you working with, a six inch base?
Do you find it obviously easier to clean the 2 1/2.

Gave it another go today. Still needs to be split down the center, the larger is for the big birds.

Do you know of anyone that sells these? I would love to use one on a cornish hen, one for me and one for the wife. The leftovers should be fantastic!

Re: Beer can chicken holders
You can use any beer can. Weber offer one but I don't know if it's stainless. I googled and found this one on Amazon..
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000TPCZY/sr=1-2/qid=1151062121/ref=pd_bbs_2?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=kitchen
There are several differant types ut there but I like these because the base is so secure.
Try one of these.. http://www.probbq.co.uk/Accessories.html

Hey guys,
Found a weber product that seems to be right up my ally, plus easy to clean:

Jim,
How does it work? Do you use a can of beer? I would LOVE all the details, especially for the folks around the world
I looked further into the Weber and found they do not allow shipment to an APO addy. They may ship international, but the import fees add to the cost, a reason why I went with the frontier instead of the WSM. It turned out for the best though, I love my unit Found it through a local company and received in a few days. My neighbor loves my ribs, but mesquite is kinda strong.

Easy, Peasy! Crack open a can of your favorite brew; drink about 1/4 to 1/3 of it (this is called preseasoning the cook); season the bird to your liking; jam the can up the backside of the chicken; stand it up on the smoker/grill; cook until done. I take the internal temp to about 165*F in the breast / 175*F in the thickest part of the thigh (not touching bone). If you place a pie pan under the bird, it will catch any juices, but I would also put some of the beer in the pan to help keep the juices from burning to the pan (unless you're using disposable and don't plan on keeping the pan).
Mesquite is pretty strong for ribs...I like apple/cherry/hickory wood when given the selection. Mesquite is better on thicker cuts (like brisket) and can be hard to get used to the flavor if you don't immediately like it...an aquired taste.
Hope that helps. It may not be the best way, but it's what has worked for me.

Hey Jim,
I'm talking about that equipment you bought from walmart. I'm interested in how you use it. Does a can slide in it or what? I want something thats good for cornish hens, since it's just the wife and I.

Here's a picture of one like I have; can inserted; chicken not yet impaled.
The next step in the process is to ram this thing into the backside of the chicken. I haven't seen them for cornish hens...these might be a little on the big side. With bird that small, using just the can should give you plenty of stability...never tried it though.

Re: Beer can chicken holders
Try using a can of V8 in the game hens as they should be the perfect size plus you get to make Bloody Marys.

No problem bro. try and take a can opener and removing the top of the can to make things easier. It works witlh beer and soda cans too.
