SPOGA trade Show, Gyros and a special stone
Howdy folks...
I´m just back from a trip to cologne for the SPOGA outdoor trade show in Cologne.
It was a really nice show, we met lots of nice people and had some great fun.
Heres a small overview, but lets start with something special.
Last year we met Steven Raichlen at the show and had a nice chat with him.
We stayed in contact a bit and when i heard he´d be around in cologne again this year, i thought i´d be about time say thanks for all he did to spread the word of BBQ and grilling all over the world and being such an inspiration especially for us guys on this side of the pond.
Almost everyone i know who´s into grilling and bbq learnt a lot from Steven and we usually recommend his books to everyone whos starting out.
I have a friend who makes some custom pizza and baking stones with a very special glaze. He is a ceramic engeneer and a true artist, so i asked if we could get together and make something special.
Heres the results, a 14 inch , 1 inch thick stone.

And heres the one we made it for. Actually, im more taking care of the stone than the camera, but who cares.
We had a nice chat with Steven again and i hope he liked the gift.
Lets go on with the fair.
I gotta say there werent too many real specials.
Lots of really cheap copys and tons of stainless gas grills wich all seemed to come out of the same factory with different labels.
We went to the Weber Booth to get a sight on the new 22" WSM and the26 3/4" Kettle.
The 22" WSM wont be sold in germany so it wasnt on display but the new kettle looked really nice. 40% more cooking space, ash catcher, thermometer, stainless grate, heat shield, lid holder and a couple of other features.
The rotisserie will finally be available over here
Black edition of the Q-series
Heres a Gasgrill with integrated computer and display. You can hook it up with your computer like a Stoker and is uses a ramp mode similiar to the BBQ-Guru. It automaticly detects flareups and you can programm deiiferent temperature and burner settings.
When is said to the developer that they just made gas grilling even more boring he promised me to install Pacman on the build in display.
This would have been nice after all the walking across the really huge fair.

I guess Weber is not gonna be amused of those

Wtf ? PAM Spray with Mesquite and Hickory Flavour...
On Monday evening i cooked a Gyros at a friends house near cologne with a couple of friends.
We also had Ian from Probbq and Doru and his Wife from www.hotdesign.us
with us. Doru is the guy who designed the pig roaster and it was an honor for me to cook for him. It was a nice evening with BBQ friends from all over the world (and lots of beer).
Heres Ian a what he does best. Cheers !
So long,

That looks an awesome show, thanks for the Pics. Was there a star attraction?
Re: SPOGA trade Show, Gyros and a special stone
DM,
It was great to get to spend some time with you guys... thanks so much!
The last pic is the beef that took away my confidence as a cook, after eating that, I realised that I had a lot left to learn... truely awsome!

Keep your pants on Mack, actually we screwed up on that and should have taken it off the smoker some minutes earlyer.
Did you get the chorizos through the airport ? What about the booze ?
