SALMON SMOKING
Hi im new to this smoking game and would like some idea,s on smoking some salmon,i ve a new frontier smoker (still in box) and a whole salmon still in the freezer,i would really appreciate any advise to ensure a successful 1st attempt.also can anyone recommend a good book to get me started.

Hi Krys and welcome to the forum.
My approach to fish, is to keep it as simple as possible, with just a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkling of salt and pepper to taste. Use a mild wood, such as Alder, but use just a handful of chips on your 1st smoke, you can use more the next time if it's not smoky enough.
I would suggest that you fillet the fish before smoking at around 220 Deg F and this should take around 40 mins, dependent on the size of the fish.
There are so many books out there, I haven't read that many to be in a position to recommend any.

Check out the Virtual Weber Bullet web site. They have two Salmon recipes. I have tried one, the Brown Sugar rub, and it was very good.
I just grilled some Salmon last night, and as Mack said, kept it simple. I use a little Lemon Pepper and Garlic Pepper, a little Thyme, and sprinkle it with Lemon Juice while grilling.

I have never done a Salmon on the smoker, does it take significantly longer?
I am a huge fan of the Cedar Plank Salmon which needs to be done on a reasonably higher heat. You could do this on a ProQ Frontier perhaps by removing the water pan and using the lower grill.

I have smoked Salmon on my offset. I used apple wood. It came out VERY tasty, and only took about 45-hour if I remember. I am anxious to try it on the Frontier
