New WSM in Denmark???

Post  ILBBQS.com on Wed Aug 13, 2008 5:04 pm

Hey Gang,

Just saw the following posted on another forum...

Anyone have info on this? They said it came from http://www.WeberKlubben.dk, but I don't know Danish and can't find it on the site...they also said it's supposed to be available in 2009. Has anyone else here heard of this? Question

Um...

I havent seen that one before, where┤d you get the information ?

Honestly, i cant believe the guys at weber finally stopped kissing their own butts and designed a new improved WSM.

Wait and see.

It was posted by "Morten" on the Virtual Weber Bullet Forum.

I visited the site, but don't read Danish so had a tough time trying to find the info.

Chris Allingham just confirmed the new WSM and posted some details.

* Two 22" cooking grates - 50% larger than current WSM
* Built-in lid thermometer with 1.5" stem...temp range of 100-350*F in 5*F increments
* Extra lid handle on edge (it's a heavy lid)
* Larger 4-1/4" vent dampers with 4 3/4" holes
* Improved access door: taller, wider, with handle that indicates locked position, and a clever design that allows you to remove the door entirely or have it open downward but still attached--without hinges
* Monster 3-gallon water pan with wider rim and redesigned grill straps to stablize the pan...this pan is not going anywhere once in the cooker
* Sturdier 2" wide legs
* Improved charcoal grate: the gaps at the edges have been closed to prevent charcoal from falling through
* Really big charcoal chamber...have not yet measured capacity, but 9 lbs of charcoal looked very lonely in the bottom of the chamber
* A drip pan mounted on the legs to catch liquid from the bottom vent dampers
* A bit more headroom between the top grate and inside top of lid, and a bit more space between top and bottom grates

Wonder if it will be any cheaper than the ranch kettle though... lol!

It'll be interesting to see what kind of price tag is tied to the new cooker. Also how much will the smaller 18" go up in price?

I think it would be Stacker worthy!

Here's an excerpt from a thread on BBQ Central:

"The MSRP for the new 18.5" WSM is $349.99 and $499.99 for the new 22.5" WSM. ... Give me a couple more days to tie up some lose ends with my Weber POC and I will hopefully be able to provide more information soon and possibly take pre-orders at that time. I just want to be sure I give the right information.
Larry Wolfe "

Cha-ching...Looks like Weber is going to be upcharging quite a bit for their 'standard' WSM.

It doesn't appear as though those features will be included. Though I did get an email today from Weber's Director of Public Relations who said the unit is in "pre-preproduction/prototype stages right now". We'll see what the final unit will have for features. As soon as I find out, I'll let you know; but if you find out first, please let me know! Smile
