My parents big fat greek wedding anniversary

Post  Don Marco on Sun Jun 01, 2008 11:32 pm

καλημέρα

My parents are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary tomorrow and
had a big party on that today. There were ~40 friends, neighbours and familiy Members and it was a perfect sunny day.

Off course i did the "catering" for that party.
They demanded something special, so i cooked a greek gyros over grape wood, and we made a mediterran buffet with Pita Bread, greek slaw, Tzatziki, suffed olives and so on.

Bought almost 40 punds of pork butt on friday, cut it in slices and seasoned with some spices and fresh oregano, thyme, garlic, onions and Olive oil.
The smell in my house was unbelieveable.

Early this morning i set up my grills and made last preparations in my parents garden.

Sometimes i wish i were a dog...

Ribs in the Exel, seasoned with herbs de Provence and basted with a mixture of garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. Smoked them with olive wood.

Distance from the grills to the beer : less than 3 meters ;-)

Notice the other lazy dog...

The guests are arriving

And the dog doesnt care...

Now its time to thread the pork onto the spit. Wow, what a mess !

Okay, im up to my shoulders in dead pork and the others enjoy their time

Here we go :

It looks a little unshaped but its the first time i do something like this. Lifes a lesson.
After the first cut the meat was very uniform

Addes some grape wood, cherry wood and thyme and oregano from time to time. The smell was just out of this world.

Ribs are done and 6 slabs are gone in less than 30 seconds. ANIMALS !

Gyros is looking good

First cut.

I put the meat into a chafing dish to keep it warm until the buffet opens.
Otherwise theres no way to serve the crowd fresh off the spit.

Made some sides :

Vine leaves filled with mediterran seasoned rice

Tomatoes filled with the same rice

and topped with mozarella and herbs.

Tomatoes stuffed with garlic, onions, oregano, thyme, EVOO and mozarella

Part of the buffet

Cooked 4 dozens of our grilled pralines for dessert

Hmm, i think someone forgot to feed these folks...

Thats it.
Im drop dead tired but it was well worth the effort.
The guests were very happy, the food was great and it was a wonderful day.

Im looking forward to my parents 60th anniversary.

So long,

DM
