Hooking fish

Post  Rick101 on Wed Jan 28, 2015 9:31 am

Trying smoked mackerel this morning and making use of the supplied hooks and bar.

hooked through the tail end of the fish, actually in the body above the spine. Unfortunately as it's cooked and become tender the fish has dropped off the hook and fallen into the water pan below Crying or Very sad

Was prob in there boiling for a few min before I rescued it. It's now just sat on a grill tray and hopefully recoverable.

Is there a better way of using the hooks? The fish although large for a mackerel wasn't massive. I though about securing to the hook with string but maybe would still collapse as it cooks?

Any advice. Thanks.

Hey Rick,

I suggest hooking under and into the head, just where the gills meet, as the head won't go soft on you!
