Roasting on a smoker
Hi,
I know the Frontier is designed for functionality. I'm wondering if it's possible to use it for roasting.
I will using it for a smoke, but once that is done and the meat is resting I'm wanting to get it up to around 400f for some other bits.
I'm thinking top up coal, reduce to 1 stacker and vents open. Should I also remove the water pan?
As it might be difficult to adjust the position of the coals, would I be better keeping the 2nd stacker in place so more like an indirect heat?
Is the temperature constant inside or is one stacker hotter than the other?
ThanksĀ

re Roasting
Hi rick
Personally i leave the water pan in the unit,
i just don't add the wood chips or chunks to make the smoke,
That's the only difference between smoking and roasting,
I might take the water pan out towards the end to brown up the
outside of the meat or crisp up the skin depending on what i am cooking.
The temp will stay the same in both stacker with the water pan in the unit.
i hope this helps
happy smoking

Re: Roasting on a smoker
Glad to say all went well on it's debut event. Would have had a lot of hungry mouths if it didn't!
Did a 10lb pork shoulder on the bottom rack for 15 hours and ribs on the top for 7 hours.
Also did some chicken on the kettle
I'm hoping to brave brisket next. always shied away from it as I hear it's easy to dry out/mess up. Time to step up I think.
