australian heat beads

Post  adie1975 on Fri Jul 04, 2014 3:41 pm

Has anyone used Australian heat beads in there pro q excel. I've read reviews which say they burn hot and long, also been told they may not be very good in water smokers.
Would appreciate any reviews.
Thanks Adrian

I used these today, they worked fine for me and do burn hot and long. Approx 8-10 hours with a 7kg bag, the temperature even stayed at 225-250 for 2 hours with all the vents shut after my 7 hour cook.

Thanks for the info.

Have heard these take some time to get lit. Did you have any issues?

lighting the beads

I used a chimney and fire lighters to light the beads.
Would be hard to light without a chimney or lighters.
They burn hot and for a long time.
They are hard to extinguish, continued to burn with all vents closed.
