Jim,

How does it work? Do you use a can of beer? I would LOVE all the details, especially for the folks around the world Cool
I looked further into the Weber and found they do not allow shipment to an APO addy. They may ship international, but the import fees add to the cost, a reason why I went with the frontier instead of the WSM. It turned out for the best though, I love my unit cheers Found it through a local company and received in a few days. My neighbor loves my ribs, but mesquite is kinda strong.

Hey Jenx,

Easy, Peasy! Crack open a can of your favorite brew; drink about 1/4 to 1/3 of it (this is called preseasoning the cook); season the bird to your liking; jam the can up the backside of the chicken; stand it up on the smoker/grill; cook until done. I take the internal temp to about 165*F in the breast / 175*F in the thickest part of the thigh (not touching bone). If you place a pie pan under the bird, it will catch any juices, but I would also put some of the beer in the pan to help keep the juices from burning to the pan (unless you're using disposable and don't plan on keeping the pan).

Mesquite is pretty strong for ribs...I like apple/cherry/hickory wood when given the selection. Mesquite is better on thicker cuts (like brisket) and can be hard to get used to the flavor if you don't immediately like it...an aquired taste. Wink

Hope that helps. It may not be the best way, but it's what has worked for me.

Hey Jim,

I'm talking about that equipment you bought from walmart. I'm interested in how you use it. Does a can slide in it or what? I want something thats good for cornish hens, since it's just the wife and I.

Hi Jenx,

Here's a picture of one like I have; can inserted; chicken not yet impaled.

The next step in the process is to ram this thing into the backside of the chicken. I haven't seen them for cornish hens...these might be a little on the big side. With bird that small, using just the can should give you plenty of stability...never tried it though.

Try using a can of V8 in the game hens as they should be the perfect size plus you get to make Bloody Marys. Very Happy

No problem bro. try and take a can opener and removing the top of the can to make things easier. It works witlh beer and soda cans too.

V8??? I would think that would be a good alternative for the tea-tottler/vegaterians too! lol!

Re: Beer can chicken holders

Oh man!

I forgot to tell everyone. I tried the V8 can method for the Cornish hen and it worked out great! I used EVOO, seasoning from the local butcher (very good) and butter. Put the hen on after cooking 4 baby back ribs (turned out great by the way) and cooked in a disposable aluminum pan. The V8 can was half-filled with local beer (Bitburger), brushed the hen with the seasoning mixture and um...stuffed the can, witch fit very well for the size. I cooked this pretty bird until beautifully done, basting along the way. Once I pulled it off, I let it rest for about 15 minutes. One half went to the wife and the other for me. I tell you, it was the best chicken I have ever had! There was so much juice and flavor. I didn't know chicken could taste so good. Just think of adding other flavors to the beer in the can... affraid

I bet you can tell I enjoyed it. I REALLY need to get a camera.
