I´m sure some of you have had problems with air circulation in the ProQ. Only one vent in the base, which is beside or over the charcoal sometimes is not enough.

In another german forum I found a solution. Perhaps some of you know, but I didn´t find a threat about it here.

In another threat here I read the word "to mcgyver", I like it very much and my wife started laughing as I told her: "I´ll go in the back yard for mcgyvering."

Ok, here we go:

Having got my Maverick thermometer, I was worried about pinching the wire between stackers. I've been using the top vent for access, but this is not ideal, so I decided to put an eyelet into the top of each stacker.

I bought a couple of 1/4" panel mount guitar input sockets from my local guitar shop (cost less than £2) with a couple of extra lock nuts.

I cut off the 'connector' bits leaving just the threaded shaft. I filed it flat & cleaned up any potential sharp bits ...

I have made a smaller water pan holder

with a capacity of 5 litres = 1.32 gallons

same diameter as Charcoal basket

I have tested 2 times now

If you want higher temperature ,but with waterpan this is a way

It makes quickly a difference of 60 F = 35 C

with 2 stackers

I have no flare ups so far, because the waterpan has the same diameter as the charcoal basket

he is not beautifull round,But he is doing his work

Though I haven't received the Excel yet, was just wondering if anyone out there has used (or found the need to use) a BBQ Guru on their Excel 20? I have an older model Guru that I used to use on my old 'FrankenSmoker' (highly modified ECBs), but don't use it in competition...just looking for a second life for the unit. Do you think the Excel could benefit from a Guru marriage?

To make your unit a bit more stable, especially if you are using extra stacker's, simply hold the leg at the base and gently pull outwards (do this evenly on all 3 legs). This will give the unit a wider "footprint", thus improving stability.

Then take a piece of foil and cover the top of the water pan.Let it sag just a little in the middle.Poke some holes in the foil over the wood chips. So the grease and all that good stuff runs into the chips. It acts like a bigger smoke box except for the grease running in there. The clay base will hold the heat.

Always one to overbuild what ever I touch, I was not completely satisfied with the mounting hardware that came with the handles of my Frontier.

So, even after upgrading the size of the hardware that came with the handles to full 1/4 inch diameter, I noticed quite a bit of flex when picking up a stack full of ribs and a full water pan to set it on the coals. I was afraid that the handles would torque so much that it may cause a dent in the side of my cooker.

Here is a little something that I "McGyvered" together to help me add fuel during a cook without removing my stacks or leaving the fuel door open so long that I loose a lot of heat while I am forking in a few chunks of charcoal at a time.

I purchased 2 adjustable elbows that are found in most hardware stores in the gas vent section. If memory serves correctly they were under $3 each:
